I have had several crashes while scrolling, copying and pasting while using Office 2011 for mac on Sierra. I have always downloaded the latest updates from Microsoft and Apple and it seems to have gotten worse lately. I have posted my issues on a couple of different forums and have yet to get a viable solution to fix this issue.
Running software on an operating system that is not supported is bound to be an exciting thing in terms of running into problems. If you're the sort of person who likes adventure and filing bug reports, then this is the way to go. If you have work to do, wait until the software has been updated to run in the new operating system before ripping the foundation of the software out from underneath it. I am an unpaid volunteer and do not work for Microsoft. 'Independent Advisors' work for contractors hired by Microsoft. 'Microsoft Agents' work for Microsoft Support.
So is that to say that Office 2016 is not supported by the current Mac OS, which is OSX 10.11 – El Capitan? I didn't know that. But criticising users who are using the current Mac OS is absurd. El Capitan has been in beta for months, and there was plenty of time for MS to test Office 2016 on it.
Obviously, Apple are not going to hold release of a new OS for MS to catch up. Perhaps it should have been MS who held up until their software ran reliably on a current OS? For me, Office 2016 has frequently crashed and is excruciatingly slow in launching and also slow in normal use. Having already spent the money on Office 2016, I have had to revert to Office 2011, which does run reliably on Apple's current OS. Jim is just as Frustrated as You and perhaps should have sprinkled one or two Smileys / Emoji in his Comments. He was not really trying insult users. Thing is, there has been a Public Beta out for El Capitan for over 12 months now.
Microsoft should have seen this coming. What I can't figure out is why wasn't issues with Office 2011/2016 brought up by the testers or vendors with access. In mean time either revert back to Yosemite, or try LibreOffice as a stop gap until they can get the mess straighten out _________ Disclaimer: The questions, discussions, opinions, replies & answers I create, are solely mine and mine alone, and do not reflect upon my position as a Community Moderator.

I don't think that most users will want to downgrade their entire OS just so that Office 2016 can be coaxed into usability. Office 2011 runs fine, if you had it installed already. For basic word processing and spreadsheets that don't need a lot of bells and whistles, I am using Apple's Pages and Numbers which work really well.
For everything else, I have reverted to Office 2011. I just wish I had read the forums and not jumped the gun to spend money on Office 2016. I wholeheartedly agree.
I have a handful of developers that require the latest O/S to run Xcode for iPhone app development. Further, that is absurd to even suggest downgrading my operating system to accommodate an application that doesn't even fully work with the previous operation system.
